PRSSA Bateman Competition

WHO THEY ARE

The Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) Bateman Case Study Competition is a national contest and opportunity for public relations students to apply classroom knowledge and internship experience to a full PR campaign. Through the creation and implementation of the one-month campaign, students work on behalf of the selected client in their region. The client chosen for the 2017 Bateman Case Study Competition was the Campaign to Change Direction.

"The Campaign to Change Direction is a coalition of concerned citizens, nonprofit leaders and leaders from the private sector who have come together to change the culture in America about mental health, mental illness and wellness. The goal of the Campaign is to change the way we think and talk about mental health. Participating teams will achieve this goal, in part, through education on the Five Signs of mental suffering" (PRSSA, 2016).

OUR CAMPAIGN

On behalf of the Change Direction initiative, the Healthy Conversations Team engaged with students, faculty and staff on Boise State University’s (BSU) campus. The team’s priority - to open up the conversation around mental health through meaningful connection - sparked the idea behind this campaign. By directing attention to student opinion leaders at BSU, an intimate and open dialogue was established across various student organizations. This effort increased outreach of key messages to not only inform students on the Five Signs of emotional suffering, but to encourage taking action within their own lives, as well.

As creative director, my role was to imagine, design, and create all of our external materials, as well as the final campaign report. In addition to my role, I also created weekly social media posts, the survey used for our primary research, conducted secondary research, and assisted in on-campus grassroots outreach.
