WHO HE IS

Jerry Sturgill is a native Idahoan, Democrat, and family man. In 2016, he ran for Congress against Republican incumbent, Senator Mike Crapo. "Campaign for Idaho" was based on the concept of collaboration and staying true to Idaho values - agriculture, veterans & military, public lands, education, and Idaho businesses. Additionally, Sturgill ran as a "Washington Outsider", hoping to roll up his sleeves and bring the voices of Idaho to Congress for a better future. Although "Campaign for Idaho" fought a tough battle, Senator Mike Crapo was re-elected for his fourth term as senator and seventh term in Congress.

ROLE AS PUBLIC RELATIONS INTERN

In my role as public relations intern, I was responsible for creating social media graphics, drafting press releases, attending events, and compiling weekly media reports. The goal of "Campaign for Idaho" was to run a grassroots effort, unlike previous campaigns run in the state and focused on authenticity. We utilized social media, weekly newsletters, and Facebook Live videos to reach a broad range of voters throughout Idaho. On election day, I worked with the Idaho Democratic Party on texting out the vote; contacting voters via text message to remind them to vote, providing their polling locations, and answering any questions or concerns. In the weeks following, I performed data entry for the IDP on all donations made to Democratic candidates in the 2016 election season.
